Quick answer: A wooden watch should sit just above the wrist bone and move a little, but not slide over your hand. You should be able to fit one finger between the bracelet and your wrist. Our watches arrive slightly long, and you size them at home by removing links with the tool we include. If his wrist is on the larger side, you can add extra links too.

Getting the fit right

1

Position

It should sit just above the wrist bone, not on it.

2

The finger test

One finger should slide between the bracelet and the wrist. Two means it's too loose.

3

Wood moves less

Wooden links don't stretch, so get it right once and it stays right.

Sizing a wooden bracelet

Every watch comes slightly oversized, with an adjustment tool in the box. You push out the small pins holding the links together, take out the links you don't need, and put it back together. It takes a few minutes. There's a step-by-step guide to removing links with photos.

Take the same number of links out of each side of the clasp, so the dial stays centred on the wrist. Lost your tool? Get in touch and we'll send a replacement.

Bracelet lengths

Bracelet lengths vary by model, from about 190mm on our smaller women's watches up to 240mm on some men's. Each product page lists the exact length. If his wrist is larger than the bracelet, add 2x Extra Links (£5.99), sold as a pair. Pop the watch model in the order notes so we send the right ones.

Dial size: which looks right?

Men's

Our men's watches have 44mm to 47mm dials. Bold and easy to read.

Women's

Our women's watches range from a dainty 27mm to 38mm.

In between

The Madrid has a 42mm dial and works for men and women.

Buying it as a surprise?

You don't need his wrist size. Here's what we suggest:

  • Measure a watch he already wears. See how to measure a watch he already wears.
  • Or just order it as it comes. He can size it himself in a few minutes, or any watch repairer can do it.
  • If you think he'll need more length, add a pair of extra links to be safe.

And if it really isn't right, you can return any watch within 30 days, even if it's engraved. See our returns page.
