Quick answer: A well-looked-after wooden watch can last a very long time. Customers who bought from us when we started in 2017 are still wearing the same watch nearly 10 years later, having only replaced the battery or a link along the way. Keep it dry, store it somewhere sensible, and change the battery when it runs out (on quartz models), and there's no reason it won't keep going for years. Ours come with a 1-year warranty too.

What we've seen

We've been engraving and sending out wooden watches since 2017, and we still hear from customers who bought from us right at the start. Their watches are still going. The only things most of them have needed are a new battery, and occasionally a replacement link. The wood itself holds up well when it's looked after.

What affects how long it lasts

1

Water

The biggest one. Wood doesn't like being soaked. Splashes are fine; swimming and showers aren't.

2

Knocks

Like any watch, it can pick up marks. Darker woods such as ebony and walnut hide them best.

3

Heat and sunlight

Don't leave it on a radiator or a sunny windowsill. Steady room temperature is best.

4

The movement

Quartz movements need a new battery every so often. Mechanical ones need no battery at all.

What wears out first

On a quartz watch, the first thing you'll need is a new battery. Any watch repairer can change it. On a mechanical watch there's no battery: it's powered by the movement of your wrist, so wear it regularly to keep it running.

The wooden bracelet is held together by small pins. They're strong, but over years of wear a link can get damaged or lost. If that happens, get in touch and we can help with a replacement link.

How to make it last

  • Keep it away from water beyond the odd splash. See can wooden watches get wet?
  • Take it off for the gym, gardening and DIY.
  • Store it in its box, somewhere dry, when you're not wearing it.
  • Wipe it with a soft dry cloth now and then. Our care guide covers the rest.

Every watch comes with a 1-year warranty, and you can return any watch within 30 days, even if it's engraved. See our returns page.

Which woods are toughest?

Denser woods like ebony and sandalwood are hard-wearing and hide everyday marks well. Walnut is a good all-rounder. Lighter woods like olive and oak look lovely but show marks a little more. More in which wood is best for a watch?
