Best Wooden Watches 2026: How to Choose the Right One
Wooden watch buyer's guide · 2026
Choosing a wooden watch comes down to five things: the wood, the movement, the fit, how it copes with water, and whether engraving and returns are included. Here's what to look for, and how our range compares.
- Free engraving, with a preview
- Free delivery to Australia
- 30-day returns, even engraved
- 4.8★ on Trustpilot
- A tree planted per order
Quick answer: look for real wood, a Japanese movement, honest water resistance (splashproof, not waterproof), a bracelet you can size yourself, and free engraving with returns. Our wooden watches are £99.99 to £139.99 for men and mostly £99.99 for women, engraving is always free, standard delivery to Australia is free, and you can return any watch within 30 days, even if it's been engraved.
I'm James. Sam and I run The Wood Look from our workshop in Stourbridge, where we do all our engraving. We've been doing this since 2017, so we've answered most of the questions people have before buying their first wooden watch. This guide puts those answers in one place.
Five things to check before you buy
There are plenty of wooden watch brands sold in the UK, from budget watches at around £20 up to premium ones at £200 to £300 or more. Whoever you buy from, these are worth checking.
The wood
Darker, denser woods hide everyday knocks better. Real wood means no two watches have the same grain.
The movement
Japanese quartz for easy, accurate everyday wear, or battery-free mechanical for watch lovers.
The fit
Wooden link bracelets are sized by removing links. Make sure the tool is included.
Water
Splashproof is normal for wood. Be wary of any wooden watch sold as fully waterproof.
Engraving and returns
Is engraving free? Do you see it first? Can you return it once it's engraved? Many shops say no.
Which wood?
The woods we use most, and what they look like on the wrist:
Walnut
Warm mid-to-dark brown with visible grain. The safe choice.
Ebony
Very dark, close to black. Smart, and good with suits.
Sandalwood
Rich reddish tones. Red sandalwood suits a ruby anniversary.
Olive
Light and creamy with a wavy grain.
Oak
Light and natural. Very British.
Zebrawood
Striped and eye-catching, often paired with a darker wood.
Quartz or mechanical?
Quartz (most of our range): a Japanese movement that runs on a battery, keeps good time and needs no fuss.
Mechanical: powered by the movement of the wrist, with no battery at all. Several have a see-through back so you can watch them working. They cost a bit more and appeal to anyone who likes how things work. They can't be engraved on the back, so we engrave the inside of the gift box instead.
Fit and water
Our watches arrive slightly oversized, and you take out links with the tool we include. If you're buying as a gift, that's fine: he can size it himself in a few minutes, and we have instructions to help.
Wood and water don't mix well. Our watches are splashproof, so rain and hand washing are fine, but take it off for swimming, showering or the washing up.

Engraving
Engraving goes on the caseback, the flat back of the watch that sits against the wrist, so the message stays private. It's always free, and text length is flexible: if a message is too long to read clearly, we'll get in touch and work it out with you.
Before we engrave anything, you'll get a free preview to check. There's more in how our engraving works.
Looking after it
Keep it away from water, wipe it with a soft dry cloth now and then, and store it somewhere dry when it's not being worn. That's really all there is to it. Our care guide has the details.

Frequently asked questions
Are wooden watches any good?
A well-made one is a proper everyday watch. Look for real wood rather than a wood-effect finish, a Japanese movement, and a brand that tells you plainly how water-resistant it is. Ours use real wood and Japanese movements, and they're light and comfortable to wear all day.
How much should I spend on a wooden watch?
You can find wooden watches from about £20, but at that price the wood, movement and finish are often basic. Ours are £99.99 to £139.99 with free engraving, which puts them in the middle of the market.
Do wooden watches last?
Yes, if they're kept away from water. The wood is finished for everyday wear, and like any quartz watch, the battery will need replacing eventually.
Can you engrave a wooden watch?
Yes. We laser engrave the caseback of every quartz watch for free, and you get a preview before we do it. Our automatic mechanical watches can't be engraved on the back, so we engrave the inside of the gift box for free instead.
Can I return an engraved wooden watch?
With us, yes. You can return any watch or bracelet within 30 days, including engraved ones, as long as it's in resellable condition.
Are wooden watches waterproof?
Ours are splashproof, not waterproof. Take it off before swimming or showering.
Still not sure which one to pick? Send us a message with a bit about who it's for and we'll help. We're a small family team and we do reply.
